" But anyway and quarterbacks joining us from our Beacon Hill studio former state Attorney General and now an attorney with -- our Rhodes Scott Harshbarger. And Joe Malone are former state treasurer good morning to both of England Kim morning cam very nice to see you hope he survived in your basement or dry. The other traffic laws in real pretty this morning Malia. Joe's warmed up particularly when you don't call -- up from the situation. Are well let's get started then with the first quarter lawmakers agree. On 700. Billion dollar bailout what do you think guys is this good for the country and what about for the taxpayers."

" But it's one of those so these choices where it's not a pleasant thing to do but there's really not a heck of a lot of alternative and all of this started. Because you had Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac the federal government saying led body community reinvestment act is a great piece. In yesterday's loss single by Jeff Jacoby who basically says Barney frank. Step up and take responsibility be accountable for the fact that you weren't major play up in creating that -- all it."

" But -- Wall Street greed. Overspending. Having no sense of responsibility. Making huge amounts of money privatizing the gain while all Abbas now lose. That's the problem that's like shooting the messenger the fact is this was a failure of Wall Street. We're all paying for it and their former going to have to find a way out of this it's clearly a serious problem because the credit markets are drying up but the fact is. This is a classic example. -- executives and Wall Street and major financial firms taking the gain up during the good period. And then now were bailing out Wall Street that's why people are so angry Joe and that's why there's a serious."

" Problem passing this box clearly there's some to blame on Wall Street don't paint with a broad brush. But at the federal level Fannie Mae Freddie Mac one point five trillion dollars between them they were running around like drunken sailors and here we had. Congress and John McCain stepped up -- got."

" A problem John magaw came over all this isn't about the after -- classic example was George Bush how your business failures regularity franks earlier regulation you all the fact is that this is not that any of those -- that. Hey Mae and Freddie Mac were all supported the parties and."

" Our effort for some -- George Bush's watch this the next one all right let's go to the sat next forty guy's got a little extra time on that quarter have a little whistle problems. Let's get to the second quarter now let's talk about that first presidential debate that occurred on Friday. I was watching and of the two of you watching as well did seem like there was any knock out blows and but neither of them you know walked away looking like a bad guy either way it'll seem to. Just been sort of okay."

" Well I think it first -- him that it was by most people's accounts a draw poses for John McCain felt very good about John McCain. Barack Obama emerged as solid. Thoughtful presidential. And I think he won because it wasn't draw he's ahead. And first of all and also many people had never seen Barack Obama they didn't know what to expect for him. And what you got was a very solid thoughtful leadership approach particularly Independent to 10% of the vote that really counts here. Swayed very favorably towards Iraq. John McCain while he was good on the attack also came across as a warrior. As somebody who jumps back and forth. May not be able to be the kind of person who -- operating in a crisis can actually leave the country but I it was a draw it was a first a debate. We'll see what happens from here on it."

" I think if you went into that debate being a McCain supported came out as wanted to -- an Obama -- pretty much came in out of one. Now the -- becomes an all those battleground states where those undecided voters going -- I think though many of those saying let me wait and see the next couple of debates and see how plays out over the next month we got a long way to go in this campaign it's -- clearly a case of who was going to be the one that can make the case I'm more Washington to change things to reform things that that answers Philip in the year."

" When I think it the other piece in this once that this was on McCain's home court that is supposed to be about foreign policy. And a great deal of what was spent obviously appropriately on the economy and in that area both candidates have a serious problem. I don't know what the solution is really here they couldn't take decisive positions but I think Barack Obama emerged in my view as a solid thoughtful leader."

" That'll help him. All right we'll move on the third quarter and a gentleman and move on to the vice presidential debate which is coming up this Thursday. Lot of people anticipating this debate what do you guys think."

" You know what I don't have a clue what to think about this but I know one thing the ratings going to be very high and and I and I do think it would be a case where route the two philosophies come out you have on the one hand Joe Biden who says it's patriotic. To tax people that we ought to feel like great patriots when my taxes go up while having lived through Massachusetts waste inefficiency and ineffectiveness. Of state government I don't think it's patriotic to go along with higher tax increases. In the case of Sarah Palin I think she has to be that tough conservative that she is the reform of the mavericks if she takes on those positions."

" That it's going to be great shape I think it's gotta be a question witnesses and other Tina Fey Saturday Night Live or Katie Couric interviewed the fact is there -- on. Is demonstrating repeatedly she is not ready to be vice president. Let -- be president. Is a serious criticism of John McCain. On the other hand he chose her but the fact is she's popular at the base I think here in this debate. I think will reflected Joe Biden. While he does make gaps the fact is Joe Biden has thirty years of foreign policy experience leadership experience as solid credible candidate. And the debate will get a lot of attention but I think you'll also shown that Sarah Palin. Is not ready for prime time they're protecting her this -- her first -- a second chance to come out in public. And the reality is she is had a -- been cramming for two weeks ago trying to meet foreign leaders learned something about foreign policy which is no idea what she's doing."

" You know what that left of this country like a Chinese want to to. Over the have been since she's not ready should not write this that ridiculing Europe I look forward to her showing up Friday night -- the cover up because it is exactly that there's just the latest on the well I use -- as she."

" And are rightly point win. -- well we'll all find out up to watch the debate on Thursday night if she's been prepped well enough and if you -- it was a joke here Friday to write an account I needed regularly here. All. All. Okay guys final quarter went a little bit about that article it showed up in the globe yesterday about local high schools targeted -- drinking more aggressively. It's really -- disturbing what appears to be a trend and maybe even an epidemic so many kids. Drinking alcohol under age showing up. At school events and and ultimately you know possibly get Carter caused some problems the schools are cracking -- guys feel about this is this the right thing to do."

" Well -- I'm a recovering parent and now a grandparent. Looking and hoping that then and Michael on Bentley said with these young granddaughters can figure out a solution to what is a very difficult problem. This issue of drinking by people under age. Boys and girls teenagers is a very serious problem it's a major cause of accidents it's a serious problem in terms of variety of issues relating to sexual relationships and all that kind of thing. I think it's a major social problem I commend the principle we're trying to stand up here and draw hard lines it is illegal. They ought to draw -- I think it's appropriate I also command for example Gerry Leone in Middlesex County district attorney. Working with superintendents and principals to make sure that the law enforcement is supporting efforts by. School superintendent and educators to deal with this very serious problem I'd also like to see parents step up and take responsibility and control here. This is something that -- none of us have done a good job that and I really hope that we can find a solution to this problem."

" My final ten seconds. I would like this that. Again I agree with Scott very serious problem parents have to step up and doing but even to the parents it's not an easy thing because 141516. Year -- now think that there adults and that they ought to be able to do what adults and I think it can't be with -- educated you can't even be with the police department. Hole you've got to take care of it you guys indicated the price to pay -- got to control and you're drinking and you will be held accountable for. The of giving or more slack to our kids and we tighten up that I think we -- give credit to kids who are not drinking or not using alcohol or being responsible. And taking consequences that leadership groups last quick point at least keep commodity automobiles that's that's humble -- right."

" I think it's every parent's worst."

" It really earliest element in great like always we want to sing sweet now on the Red Sox will do finally. I'll go to the next next. Now --"

" You guys have been great thanks very much we'll look forward to -- you actually."
